CSI: Results Edition

Thank you to everyone who voted in my poll last Friday! There was no clear winner for the options I gave, but a number of people contributed their own responses. The clear favorite was CSI, which I actually had intented to include on my list but forgot. I’m actually suprised that this show was the winner – especially considering Dexter was on the list (but then again, I’m biased). The show is just starting it’s 11th season, and has seen a number of cast changes, including the addition of Laurence Fishburne, but it’s still just as popular as ever.

I was particularly hesistant about the season premiere when it was announced that Justin Bieber was going to be the “celebrity” guest star. CSI has seen a lot of “celebrity” guests, but a lot of the time it’s sort of awkward, especially if the person is a celebrity for reasons other than acting. In this episode, Justin had to portray a “troubled teen” who, with his brother, has gotten caught up in anti-government movement. The movement has started targeting police officers and the CSIs for a number of explosive attacks, the first of which almost killed Nick Stokes and the second of which almost got Greg Sanders. On top of all this, new CSI Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne) ended up losing a kidney in his brutal stabbing attack from the season 10 finale.

I definitely give Justin credit for trying to get into the role, but I just found him as an anti-government activist to be so unbelievable. I actually found myself laughing during his scenes even though the content was supposed to be serious. He could’ve been good on the show, but I think they mis-cast him in the role. He needed something that was a bit less of a strech for him. But putting Justin’s poor acting aside, I absolutely adored Laurence Fishburne’s performance. I loved him from all his movies to begin with, but being able to watch him on CSI every week has been awesome. He brings a really interesting new dynamic to the show, especially after Grissom left the show. In the general rankings of show premieres this fall, CSI does not rank in my top 5, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable. It was a very strong opening episode for a show that has seen 11 seasons of TV. Personally, I hope it will continue to air for 11 more. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of the cast solving crimes.
