FlashForward’s Mid-Season Return

As you will come to find in regularly reading this blog, I am a big TV fan. I watch almost 30 different shows (not all at once, some are on hiatus). Yes, I realize that this is insane. One of the shows that I added to that list this past season is an ABC show by the name of FlashForward. You may have heard of it. I really do enjoy the show and was quite pleased when ABC announced that it would be ordering more episodes. Too many times I have fallen in love with a new show only to have my hopes and dreams dashed when the station cancels it without the opportunity to give it an ending *coughKingscough*.

If you are unfamiliar with the show, let me enlighten you. In episode one, the entire human race blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. During this time they all have “flash forwards”, which are basically dream-like visions of what they are doing at that same time on April 29th (6 months in their future). After this event, the show then moves to be based around the FBI’s investigation of what caused the black out and how what people saw in their visions affect their day-to-day lives. For some it showed an unpleasant future that they want to change, for others, it showed a happier future than they currently had and gave them renewed hope. For an unlucky few, they did not have any vision, which means that those people may not be alive when April 29th comes around. All of these elements come together to create a really intense, and fascinating show to watch. A lot of great plot points revolve around whether or not the events that everyone saw in their flash forwards can be changed or not, and the show gets into some great suspense moments over the secrets behind what caused the black out.

FlashForward returns tomorrow (3/18) at 8pm on ABC. I think that you should all give it a watch. I was very pleasantly surpised by it. When I first saw it being promoted, I honestly just thought it was ABC’s attempt to find a show to replace Lost after it’s series finale this season, but after watching it for the first 10 episodes, not only am I hooked, I also see that it is a completely different show, and a very different fan-base. If you are interested in learning more about FlashForward, ABC.com has all 10 episodes that have aired thus far up for free viewing. I really think you’ll enjoy it.
